Building Excellent Schools (BES) serves as a national model for supporting excellence in public education through the national charter school movement. BES focuses on improving urban education by providing support for designing, launching and sustaining urban charter schools (independently-managed public schools). Springfield Prep’s Founder, Bill Spirer, was a Fellow with BES in 2012-13 and continues to work closely with the BES team.
Teach Western Mass—a new partnership of the Holyoke Public Schools, the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership, UP Education Network, and a number of area charter schools —is bolstering the efforts of our hard-working educators by attracting more colleagues who are committed to becoming partners in change. Here in Western Massachusetts, we’ve been working hard to improve our schools—but we need to do even more to ensure that all our students get the world-class education they deserve. Though Massachusetts leads the nation in overall student performance, too many students are not getting the level of education they're entitled to.
