Transition to High School

Transition to High School

At Springfield Prep, high school and college readiness are key aspects of our mission to prepare each student for success. We believe that achievement and the pursuit of higher education are indeed obtainable for each and every one of our scholars, including yours. By keeping the end goal — college — in sight from the start, we commit to your student’s success in the long term.

The transition to high school is a crucial one. At a time when families may be overwhelmed by all of the available options, we are committed to supporting each student and family’s unique needs and to help address any challenges that may arise throughout the transition process.

High School Success Program

Our High School Success Program exists to provide scholars and families with the resources needed to make informed, careful decisions when applying to high school. Through this program, students and families will be provided information regarding high school options, the enrollment process for area high schools, resources to help determine the best “fit” school, informational panels, scheduled tours of select high schools, reminders of key dates throughout the application season, and more. Current students and families may access our High School Success Program materials here.

Having a trusted resource to direct your questions to is really important. Our High School Advisor is available to support students and families throughout this process and select and apply to schools that are a good fit for their student.

High School Ready Habits

Preparing our eighth graders for high school means equipping them with the habits and skills required to succeed once they are there. In our middle school, we focus on developing the four essential habits of organization, excellence, perseverance, and advocacy to ensure that they are prepared to for the excitement, challenge, and opportunity they will find in high school and college.

Organization

Scholars create learning and design systems that facilitate their efficiency and productivity. They are self-aware about how these systems contribute or detract from their preparation, and will reflect or adjust them as necessary.

Scholars take pride in their work. They are open to feedback and revision. They seek clarity by demanding to understand. They consistently produce quality work and seek to achieve their personal best in every task and project.

Excellence

Perseverance

Scholars exercise their minds and learn to keep going when faced with challenges. They have strategies for getting "unstuck" and will regularly attempt new and unfamiliar tasks. They understand that they are capable of finding a solution to the problem as long as they demonstrate continual effort.

Advocacy

Scholars can identify their support network. They seek out support from their peers and teachers as they appropriate to do any and all of the above daily. They communicate in situationally appropriate ways to advocate for themselves and their own learning.
